View: Noisy dog disrupting peace of neighbourhood

Wednesday May 20, 2009

WE know that dogs are supposed to be man's best friend, but there are also dogs who can be your worst enemy. My problem started when my neighbour brought two dogs home. This was not really a problem but recently, the larger of the two dogs has been barking incessantly at odd hours, like 2am, 5am, 7am, and at all times of the day.

The barking is extremely loud and has become a source of disturbance and discomfort to most residents nearby. It has become impossible to get uninterrupted sleep or peace and quiet any more.

The barking is so loud that even with double-glazed windows, we are still woken up frequently in the middle of the night. The owners of the dog are either completely deaf or are blind to the obvious inconvenience that their pet is causing.

Is it possible under MPPJ rules for one house to have two dogs? We know that people can be arrested for disturbing the peace, but are there any laws to compel owners of noisy pets to ensure that their pets do not disrupt the peace?

STUDENT,

Petaling Jaya.
