IT is terribly disheartening to hear the director-general of Perhilitan say that illegal trading in wildlife is "an old story" and also "a story from the past".Obviously, this is something we all know. But what matters more is has this problem been solved? Has it even been truly tackled in the past?
The answer is no, and that is why the story by The Star was extremely relevant. Come on, you are holding this post and you should be responsible. You have allowed this "old story" to be so rampant that today we can still consider this a current issue.
If it is still not tackled, perhaps in another 10 or 20 years down the road, we will no longer need to revisit this "old story" because there will be no more wild animals left in our forests for Perhilitan to protect!
Perhaps he should resign and let someone who truly has a heart for the animals take over before it is too late.
SLENG,
Kuala Lumpur.
