SPONSORS taking part in The Star's Go Green programme are excited about the event organised in conjunction with World Environment Day at the Penang Botanic Gardens this Sunday.Alvin C.Y. Goon from Cup Cakes Passion Cafe – a cupcake bakery supplying the tasty treats — said they would be making flora-and-fauna-themed cupcakes especially for the occasion.
"It's going to be a lot of fun for the participating children who are aged between five and ten.
"We have to do everything we can to help save the Earth and it is very important to pass the message to the young ones," he said.
Aqua Bike Malaysia managing director and chairman Richard Wong, the operator of the mini-tram in the gardens, said they were "more than happy" to be part of the project.
"Our mini-trams are environmental-friendly and I am sure the kids will enjoy the ride in the colourful carriages," he said.
Penang Sudarshan Kriya Organisation secretary Saw Wooi Teng said free enzymes would be given away to the participants.
"If every single person in the globe uses this enzyme to reduce their waste, we can save the world from pollution," he said.
The Go Green programme is organised by The Star as part of its corporate social responsibility with the co-operation of the Penang Municipal Council and the gardens.
The kids will also be taken on a special nature walk with members of the Malaysian Nature Society.
The other sponsors are B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn Bhd and Queensbay Mall.
The Star circulation manager (north) Oun Sui Leng, a member of the organising committee, said registration for the event has been closed.
"We only wanted 100 children initially but took in an extra 20 due to overwhelming response," she said.
