Saturday June 6, 2009

By DAVID TAN

MOTOROLA Technology Sdn Bhd has replaced all foam food packaging materials within its premises with recyclable or reusable packaging materials with immediate effect.

Its managing director T. T. Yew said in an interview that the move followed a similar initiative implemented at the company's headquarters in the US.

"Motorola is committed to caring for the environment and to protecting the health and safety of its employees.

"By doing so, it helps to reduce costs, improve operational efficiency and meet the expectations of our stakeholders," Yew said.

He spoke at the company's 35th anniversary celebration at its plant in Bayan Lepas in Penang recently.

"We have obtained the cooperation of the canteen operator on this matter and we will provide them with the recyclable packaging materials for food," he said.

In conjunction with the company's anniversary celebrations, Yew said Motorola awarded 85 children of their employees with prizes totaling RM36,250 in recognition of their achievements in their examinations last year.

The students who received the prizes were aged between 12 and 18.

"To date, since 1994, Motorola has rewarded 600 children, bringing the total value of awards to RM241, 050," he added.
