Article: Hunt for Chip

Written By TEOH EL SEN | Published on 2009-03-03 17:45:00

The Norwegian Bjorkhaug family is going all out to get back their beloved dog, the Shih Tzu named Chip, which was stolen from their home last week.

They have hired a few private investigators and roped in other “contacts” to track down the people who stole the dog from their Taman TAR home in Ampang last Friday.

In addition, the Ampang Jaya police have now assured the Bjorkhaugs that they are hard at work looking for the culprits.

“The investigators told us they may have traced the taxi driver, that they may know the location of the people behind this,” said Oyvind Bjorkhaug, 55.

“We’re hopeful we will find something through these channels ... but this is all a maybe, for we still don’t have Chip. We’re very sad that Chip is lost. Aside from its brother, our other puppy Buzz, Chip is most important to our 14-year-old daughter. She misses the dog a lot.”

Bjorkhaug, who earlier expressed his unhappiness with the police for asking the family to investigate the matter themselves and to talk to a “higher ranking officer”, said the police contacted him again.

“They seemed apologetic and gave us confidence that they would help rectify the situation,” he said.

Said Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan: “We will try. I am sure my men have looked through the CCTV footage of the incident. It is our promise to the public that each police report, no matter the crime, will be looked into. It is our policy that our investigating officers call the complainant on each case to update them.”

The CCTV recording from Bjorkhaug’s house showed a woman getting out of a yellow and black cab that stopped in front of the house. She reached through a four-inchwide gap in the front gate, forcefully pulled Chip out and got back into the taxi.

She came back minutes later to take the other dog, Buzz, but did not succeed.
