Saturday June 6, 2009

SHAH ALAM: University Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) has signed a RM1.25mil sponsorship deal with a property developer to fund its research on environmental engineering and green technology.

The sponsorship from SP Setia Bhd will be disbursed over the next five years for the research under Utar's faculty of science, engineering and technology.

SP Setia president and CEO Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin said they hoped the project would benefit not only to the building and construction in- dustry, but the country as a whole.

"We believe that education is the best way to impart knowledge and better understanding of many issues surrounding environmental protection," he said before the signing ceremony between the company and Utar to establish an academic chair yesterday.

The ceremony was witnessed by former MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

Ong said it was important to preserve the environment for future generations through education.
