Article: Harvesting rainwater

Tuesday August 4, 2009

FOR the last 4,000 years, rainwater collection has been widely used around the world. Even though we live in a fairly wet country with 990 cu.m of rainwater annually, let's not forget we went through a tough drought in 1998.

Things have yet to reach a critical stage in Malaysia where people have no choice but to rely on rainwater although from time to time, the country has faced water shortage. Racing towards curbing the environmental dangers that we are facing today, the Government and many private institutions are jointly doing their part in creating a sustainable living environment to ensure a better future for our next generation. One of these green initiatives is rainwater harvesting.

Under the banner of Myhomepalm Integrated Sdn Bhd, GE Water & Process Technologies (General Electric) and Rain Harvesting (Australia) Pty Ltd have come together with a complete solution in rainwater harvesting that is suitable for factories, commercial buildings and residential properties. Common problems can be addressed with this system, such as pests (particularly mosquitoes breeding), blockages (such as leaves), water contamination, acidity level and alternative water switching.

The components used are mostly energy efficient and fulfil the stringent requirements of NSF/FDA and the government of Australia/New Zealand for safe drinking water. With GE Water as one of the largest players in water processes and Rain Harvesting as one of the key players in rainwater harvesting in Australia, Myhomepalm Integrated provides fully fledged services, including technical calculation of efficiency, system design, procurement and commissioning of projects. Myhomepalm Integrated is currently working with various housing developers in the implementation of the rainwater harvesting system.

Myhomepalm Integrated is the only GE Water Platinum Dealer and exclusive distributor for Rain Harvesting Australia in Malaysia.
