View : Stop dog poisoning if found to be true

I REFER to a report in Metro on April 26l under the heading “Strays being poisoned”.

As a dog lover I am very disturbed by a nursing home manager in Old Klang Road who claimed that a DBKL dog-catching unit might be involved in a dog-poisoning spree in the city.

According to him he spotted food being thrown out to stray dogs from a DBKL van cruising around his neighbourhood. He claimed that after taking the food the stray dogs foamed at the mouth and later died.

What had been disclosed by the person concerned is most inhumane and a sheer act of cruelty to animals and must be thoroughly investigated and stopped if found to be true.

The deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said it was hard to believe that the local authority was behind the poisoning spree but that he would look into the matter as soon as possible.

I hope the matter will be clarified by the local authority as soon as possible.

I realise that stray dogs might be a menace but poisoning them to death is most inhumane. The help of the SPCA should be sought to deal with the problem.

At the same time, I seriously call on all dog owners to take better care of their animals and not allow them to stray.
