Article: Service by Shah Alam council gone to the dogs

I RECEIVED a Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam’s “Notis Pembaharuan Lesen Tahun 2009” in early November, with a reminder that a 20% “Denda/Caj Lewat” (Fine/Late Charge) would be imposed if the licence was renewed after Dec 31.

As in previous years, I paid the licence fee, only to be told that the dog tag was not ready.

As always, I was asked to pay first and phone in January to find out whether the tag was available for collection.

What I cannot understand is why is a small tag ‑ the size of a 50 sen coin ‑ so difficult for MBSA to get ready before the Notice Pembaharuan Lesen is sent out?

As MBSA covers a wide area stretching as far as Sungai Buloh, I wonder whether the people in charge are aware that every year the ratepayers are inconvenienced into making more than one trip to its Licensing Deptartment at Shah Alam just to get a dog tag costing RM10, not taking into account the time and expenses involved in the process.

This is not the first time. It is the same every year. How inefficient can a local authority be.

Since there is a “Denda/Caj Lewat” of 20% levied for late payment, what about a reverse for late delivery of the licence tag?

As an alternative, can’t the tag be sent by registered post?

DISGUSTED,
Shah Alam.
