Of the 600, more than 80 cases involved poaching and smuggling, with some of Malaysia's protected and valued species becoming unfortunate victims.
According to Perhilitan and Traffic, the worldwide wildlife trade monitoring network, animals most sought-after for the meat and traditional medicine market, both local and abroad, are pangolins, clouded monitor lizards, civets, cobras and fresh water turtles.
