One of Professor Chan Eng Heng’s most influential acheivements is her creation of the innovative "Save our Turtles Outreach Programme," popularly called "S.T.O.P." This programme involves the public directly in turtle conservation efforts through nest and turtle adoption schemes and a volunteer programme.
It is this volunteer programme that has made a lasting impact, paid homage to by the corresponding blog posts of past and present volunteers whose stint in Pantai Chagar Hutang, Pulau Redang, have changed their outlook on life for the better.
"The STOP programme has touched my life in many, many, many memorable ways. I have made some very good friends from my trips to Chagar Hutang and also while attending some of the get-togethers organised by SEATRU. Most importantly, it has given me a really big insight into wildlife conservation and from the programme, I have been able to see so many animals in the wild and I was given the chance to contribute … Oh My God … & The FOOD!!! ha ha …" — Lim Puay Aun, July 17, 2008
