Article: 'Dogs Found' thanks to Ivan

By G. Prakash December 30, 2008 Categories: News

"Lost. Daschund. Three years old. Female. Answers to Tammy Faye."

How many times have you come across posters and fliers put up by pet owners whose animals had flown the coop?

But posters saying that pets had been found?

Almost never, right?

That’s what makes Ivan Lim of Taman Desa, jalan Klang Lama, so unusual.

The 35-year-old project manager has so far managed to rescue four dogs, all of which are being kept in his factory in Sungai Buloh.

The latest rescue was a dog he spotted in Taman Desa, last Monday.

"I saw the dog in the morning when I dropped off my wife at her yoga class. Later that night, while on our way out for dinner, I saw the same dog wandering around on the same street. I thought that if I didn’t do anything, it’ll probably get hit by a car. That’s when I decided to take it and bring it to my mum’s house. I later took it to my factory in Sungai Buloh," he said.

Lim named his latest save Bailey. He believes Bailey is not a stray dog as it has a dog collar and seemed afraid of the streets. He has put up a Dog Found poster in an effort to reunite Bailey with his owner.

His friend and professional pet grooming specialist Elaine Thong, 35, said pet shops should advise potential pet owners of the huge responsibility that comes along with owning a pet.

"They should advise people on the pros and cons of owning a pet, so that they will have an idea of what they are getting themselves into. But they don’t because it is such a lucrative business," said Thong, who is also an independent animal rescuer.

Those thinking of owning a pet should consider it carefully first before taking the first step, added Thong.

"There are many websites, blogs and forums that you can visit to learn about owning pets. It’s a full-time commitment."
