Article: Dogs too can be homeless

By Kharleez Zubin December 15, 2008 Categories: News

These two dogs were found roaming the streets in Wangsa 9, in Wangsa Heights, not far from the area where the Dec 11 landslide hit 14 bungalows in Taman Bukit Mewah and Taman Bukit Utama, claiming four lives.

Apparently the owners fled their homes and left the dogs to fend for themselves.

When Malay Mail went up to Wangsa 9, overlooking the disaster area, these two hungry and forlorn dogs were seen running from house to house for cover from the rain. Unfortunately, all the gates of the houses were locked and the poor creatures then sought sympathy from people who came to view the disaster from atop the hill in Wangsa 9.

But after being "shooed" away both the Alsatian and the small terrier wandered off, looking with anticipation at the next motorist getting out of his vehicle for some friendly gesture.

Occasionally both would sit, braving the rain at the road junction, as if waiting for their owners to return. When the rain got heavy, they ran to take shelter under the trees. Policemen manning the cordoned off area where the access road was being constructed said they had seen the dogs roaming the area for a couple of days.

Asked if the SPCA had been informed, they fumbled for answers.
