Article: Raymond, the puppy rescuer

By SHYAM J. February 18, 2009 Categories: News

A CUTIE: Yap, with one of the puppies rescued from the City Hall dog poundKeeping up with Raymond Yap isn’t easy as he’s a real busy bee — protesting against animal cruelty, providing welfare for animals, saving puppies and freelancing, all at the same time.

So far, Yap says that all the puppies retrieved from the City Hall pound have had medical checks yesterday, and were cleaned, fed and given the necessary immunisations.

Only the two female dogs with newborn pups have not been transferred to the temporary shelter in SS2 that the other puppies have been moved to — due to them requiring special treatment after it was found they had infections in the neck.

“Cages have already been arranged for the puppies and potential adopters can come and see which ones they would like to adopt,” said Yap.

“I’ve been working with a group of 15 to 20 people, so everyone shares the workload. I’m just one of them.”

Other animal rescuers were also at hand to help Yap’s cause after retrieving stray dogs from the City Hall pound and caring for the adorable creatures while waiting for them to be adopted.

So far, one person has passed the assessment and will adopt one of the puppies at the veterinary clinic in Taman Desa.

“In some ways, I like animals more than human beings. They don’t get the proper attention and time they deserve at the pounds; we’re just giving them a better place to go to, with the possibility of finding a home instead of wandering the streets hungry and resorting to garbage bins for food.” said Yap.

Those interested in adopting the puppies, aged up to seven weeks, can contact Yap at raymondyapkk@gmail.com or raymond@ixtive.com with their personal details, addresses and the number of puppies they are interested in adopting.
