Article: Come home, Arjun

By NG SUZHEN March 02, 2009 Categories: Cyberspot

IT’S been nearly three months, and the dog Arjun is still missing.

But his family, Chan and Ramin have not given up hope, setting up a blog (www.HelpArjun.com) and a Google map to track Arjun’s whereabouts.

So far it has been a long journey for 10-year-old Arjun, who went missing from his home in Kampung Tunku on Dec 10.

He has since been sighted at SS1/32, Taman Megah, Taman Mayang, and now, SS5. The last sighting was reported three weeks ago and his journey is documented on a Google map display for all to see.

Both Chan and Ramin rely on sightings of Arjun by kind and concerned individuals who recognise
him through the description on blogs and flyers distributed around Petaling Jaya.

“The blog is a good way to reach out to the younger crowd, to get them to pay attention to Arjun’s situation.

Moreover, it is online 24/7, where Arjun’s story will have a better chance of reaching out,” said
Chan.

If you think this is a lost cause, then you might need to think again. Arjun ran off with four-year-old
Creamie, another dog owned by Chan and Ramin.

Arjun rarely leaves the house, but when Creamie pushed open the gate in fright during a thunderstorm, he ran after her.

Frantic and worried for both dogs, Chan and Ramin, with the help of housemate Teh, went on a search for their beloved pets, which included persuading Domino’s Pizza to include flyers with every pizza delivery and getting newspaper vendors to insert the flyers into newspapers for delivery.

Their efforts paid off – partially.

On Jan 11, Creamie was found. She was adopted by a kind family four days after her disappearance and has been staying in Damansara Jaya.

It wasn’t until the family picked up one of their posters that they realised Creamie’s owners were looking for her.

“Arjun grew up around people. He is trusting towards us. When sightings of Arjun are reported of
him being chased away and ignored by people, it makes us sad. He is trying to get people to help him find his way home, but keeps getting turned away.

There is an MBPJ tag on Arjun with our address and phone numbers.

I don’t understand why people who chased him off failed to pay attention to his tag,” says Chan.

To make sure that no leads are missed, Chan and Ramin visit MBPJ, DBKL and SPCA every week, in case Arjun is found by them.

They even check with Alam Flora, as its workers pick up dead animals, to make sure Arjun isn’t one of them.

Despite being missing for such a long time, the search for Arjun is still on. Chan and Ramin are determined not to give up.

“He has been with us for 10 years. We love him a lot and are very worried for him. There have been so many concrete sightings of Arjun, which is one of the reasons why we are continuing with the search. He is out there, and we just want him to come home,” said Ramin.
