The outrageous animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is nothing if not media savvy.
Understanding the media’s insatiable appetite for shock, PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has reportedly “willed her body to be used in many of the ways that she’s spent her life fighting — her skin as leather, flesh as meat (specifically to be barbecued and eaten)” to name a few.
She also intends for her feet to be removed and made into “umbrella stands or other ornamentation” as a “ reminder of the depravity of killing innocent animals”.
Her will stipulates that “one of her eyes be removed, mounted, and delivered to the administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency as a reminder that PETA will continue to be watching the agency until it stops poisoning and torturing animals.”
Comments to this posting elicited a range of responses, ranging from the sympathetic to incredulous. One smart-alecky response signed off as a member of PETA, that is, People Eating Tasty Animals.
Ouch.
